So I've bought a new laptop, a Dell Studio 14.
Its got an Intel Core 2 Duo with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz and 800 MHz FSB. It has a RAM of 4 GB and an ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card with 256 MB memory. The hard disk is 250 GB and came pre-installed with Windows Vista. I have formatted the whole hard disk and converted it to ext3 now, except of course for the 8 GB swap partition.
I first intalled Mandriva 2009.0 free on it and then tried installing Gentoo 2008.0 amd64 edition. But I think that thing has problems in the installer because it keeps crashing.
Now, I'm using Mandriva 2009.0 powerpack64 with KDE4 enabled with some pretty 3D effects.
But I'll be installing Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 soon as I have heard that its bundled with the newly released Dell Wifi driver.
My further ventures are creating an encrypted partition and also maintaining an svn repository for programming purposes.
